Our course is tailored for writers of all levels, guiding you through a rewarding process of self-discovery and growth. Techniques work for all genres of fiction and non-fiction, including poetry and flash fiction.

You’ll learn to master the art of self-editing, infusing your unique style into every piece. We strongly emphasize constructive collaboration, teaching you how to embrace and utilize feedback effectively. Engage in lively discussions and hands-on practices, honing your craft to perfection.

Gloria Pierrot-Dyer receives Jack London Award

During the award ceremony in Oakland, on October 22, 2023, Gloria received the Jack London award for exceptional service to the Sacramento branch of CWC.

The CWC central board holds an award ceremony annually to present both the Ina Coolbrith award and the Jack London award.

The Ina Coolbrith award is named after Ina Coolbrith, who was a poet, writer, and librarian. Importantly, she was a mentor for Jack London. This award is given to CWC members for exceptional service the California Writers Club.

The Jack London award, is given to a member of a branch for exceptional service to that branch.

  • Tips on using the cover to its fullest potential.
  • Best practices for formatting the interior of a book.
  • Typical costs for book cover design and formatting.

Karen A. Phillips has a degree in Applied Art & Design. She has been designing book covers and book formatting for many years. She especially enjoys working with self-published authors. In 2023 she published her debut mystery, A DEADLY COMBO—and yes, she designed the cover.
