Theresa Lown

Theresa Lown Aspiring Writer
Theresa Lown

I am an aspiring writer because I have such an amazing story to tell. It has been my passion for years to figure out how to write this beautiful and tragic story about my unknown grandparents and their relationship with my father.  My daughter, and number one fan, gifted me this opportunity to learn from you, real published writers. I can hardly wait for a critique group (gulp!)

I grew up on the east coast in New York State. I followed by mom’s lead and became a registered nurse, a career that afforded me the privilege of caring for my fellow humans for forty years. I moved to California in 1981, traveling cross country in a converted school bus with my new husband and our meager possessions, and we made Sacramento our home.  Now, newly retired (only five years now!) and ready to write, I have been researching my story and am eager to put pen to page. I find I am stymied by not knowing how to find my voice in a work of historical non-fiction.

I love to cycle and ski. My garden gives me peace and plenty to work on. My greatest love is nature, our planet and all its creatures. I have a special affection for the birds. I feed them in my yard, and watch them incessantly, usually sitting in my bedroom chair with a pair of binoculars and a giant, silly grin on my face.

January 20th, 2024 Saturday Building a Critique Group

California Writers Club – Sacramento Branch presents.

Building a Critique Group

Saturday, January 20th

1pm to 3pm

At the Arcade Library

2442 Marconi Ave, Sacramento, CA, 95821

If you are in a critique group, want to be in one, or have years of experience in critique groups, we invite you to join us for a round table discussion of what factors make a critique group a success.

We will be looking at:

The various structures of groups, what works, what doesn’t work.

The factors of quality critiquing, what information is useful, what is not.

Different genres, the types of critiquing useful to them.

This is more than critique groups; this is a writer’s support group. Please join us to share your expertise, or simply bring your interest.

This could be your New Year resolution! To join or form your own critique group.
