Elaine Adams

Elaine Adams joined the California Writers Club in 1982 when KCRA televised the miniseries, “King of the Olympics: The Lives and Loves of Avery Brundage,” adapted from the biography she wrote. She received the Sacramento Advertising Club Award for excellence in public service advertising for video presentation, “Behind Closed Doors,” for Women Escaping a Violent Environment (WEAVE). Elaine also authored The Healing House: A Memoir, of homesteaded Swedish-built farmhouse at Hayden Lake, Idaho. The house is listed in National Register of Historic Places. Elaine also wrote for El Dorado Hills “Hilltop News” and Folsom Telegraph. She scripted one of Sacramento’s first TV commercials in the early 1950s.

Elva Anson

Elva Anson is the author of six books, three of which sold close to 20,000 copies.  She has been featured on 70 – 80 radio talk shows, appeared on television a few times, and sold magazine articles to publications including Reader’s Digest. She has also been a speaker at schools, churches, Rotary Club and other events. She belongs to CWC, ASJA, and NCPA.

She was inspired by her friend, Kiyo Soto, to write her memoir, Wondering Around God. Here is how one reviewer, Elisabeth Kersten, retired Director of Calif. Senate Office of Research, describes it. “Elva Anson is a first-rate storyteller. She knows just how much detail to give the reader to get you engaged. She packs in stories from every phase of her life. She really captures life in the Central Valley. This is the story of an amazing woman who found love, a teaching career, a counseling profession, as well as unshakable faith and inner peace–in spite of living during the tumultuous times of World War II and the Korean War. Her humility, humor and resilience are truly remarkable and life affirming. She ends with practical aphorisms but her narrative is not pedantic, just real and honest.”

Sherry Joyce

Former Silicon Valley Vice President of Human Resources, author Sherry Joyce enjoyed many years of creative and technical writing, from product marketing literature to serving as editor-in-chief of high-tech company newsletters. Sherry graduated from Bryant Stratton College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and completed her design education from Canada College, Redwood City, California.  She is a member of Sacramento Sisters In Crime, Northern California Publishers and Authors and California Writers Club. Sherry Joyce’s 2013 debut fiction, The Dordogne Deception, was conceived when the tower of the French chateau where she was vacationing was struck by lightning.  Her second, very successful novel, Dangerous Duplicity is set in El Dorado Hills, St. Paul-de-Vence, Tribeca, New York and the Riviera—a riveting double-crime ‘can’t put it down’ thriller.  Two of her hilarious short stories were published: the NCPA Our Dance With Words/Cozumel Calamity and Capitol Crimes/Murder By Conclusion. When Sherry isn’t plotting her next romantic suspense, she enjoys oil painting, golf and travel with her husband and spoiling her beloved West Highland Terriers, Abby and Effie. She is currently working on a sequel to Dangerous Duplicity.  Website: http://sherryjoyce.com

Ronald Javor

Ronald Javor has written seven illustrated books for preschool and early elementary school readers about children who face hurdles involving homelessness, their abilities or disabilities, and overcome them with imagination, perseverance, and the support of family and friends. These books help counteract negative stereotypes and encourage a positive view of those with these life barriers.

In 2020, he published “Our Forever Home,” a young adult book featuring two extinct animals, a Galapagos Tortoise and Dodo Bird, as they meet, talk to, and learn about dinosaurs, a saber-toothed tiger, cave men and many more animals who live in Our Forever Home after becoming extinct. They discover that almost all extinctions are due to climate change, often due to human activity, and try to figure out how to overcome these problems.

Ron is a retired public attorney whose professional career has involved helping to build and preserve safe and affordable housing and shelters for those in need.  He has volunteered for decades with local organizations serving homeless and other poor households. His life’s work has been acknowledged with several national, state, and local awards, and three of his children’s books have received awards. Loy Holder

I have always dreamed of writing a book.  Before I retired, I was a State Information Technology Project Manager, and a closet writer of poetry to those I loved – family, and special people in my life. But, I always dreamed of writing a book.

After retirement, cancer slowed me down, but I finally self-published in November of 2016, a novel called Dancing Up the Ladder. Through the challenging process of writing, publishing and (poor) marketing, I saw a need for affordable and easy access to a Writer’s Conference in my local Community.

Today, I’m the project manager for the Elk Grove Writer’s Conference, I chair the Elk Grove Writers Guild, work on a second book, and chair weekly meetings of the Elk Grove Senior Center Writing Group.

I also enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband, Jim Holder, 4 children, 7 grandchildren and I’m expecting my first great-grandchild, Violet, due 4/22/2018.

I look forward to meeting you at your events and meetings. Contact me at loyholder77@gmail.com or elkgrove.writersguild@aol.com, for more info on the conference.
