Margaret Duarte — Writers Network

Marketing Strategies for Technological Greenhorns

Friday, April 3, 2015,  9:00 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Margaret DuarteWhen Margaret Duarte started the process of marketing her four novels, she decided that rather than chisel away at her work to make it fit into an “acceptable” genre category, she would call it what it is—visionary fiction—and go from there. In other words, she took on the near impossible task of creating a platform and marketing strategy based on a genre that no one apparently knew or cared about.

Margaret applied that same determination to her mastery of social media, website building and marketing. “When I started this journey,” she says, “I had no clue how to operate a computer, let alone navigate the Internet. I had no blog. No Facebook page. No Twitter. I didn’t even own a smart phone.”

Join Margaret on Friday, April 3 at CWC Sacramento’s Writers Network breakfast meeting, as she shares how an amateur managed to build her own website (her newest website was created especially for the CWC-Sacramento Marketing Strategies presentation) and platform from scratch,as well as become a founding member of the Visionary Fiction Alliance and the VFA Facebook Community, which consist of hundreds of visionary fiction writers devoted to raising the genre of visionary fiction into the mainstream.

Margaret Duarte, the daughter of Dutch immigrants, is a retired middle school teacher and lives with her family on a dairy farm in California. She writes visionary fiction, a genre that includes the supernatural as part of tangible reality and involves a spiritual movement towards actualization. Visit her online at: www.margaretduarte.com and www.enterthebetween.com.

The public is invited. CWC membership not required.

Writers Network is held the first Friday of every month at the International House of Pancakes (IHOP), 2216 Sunrise Blvd., Rancho Cordova (just north of Highway 50) starting at 9 AM. Meetings are free. Attendees pay for their own breakfast.  Get map.

Questions? Contact Margie Yee Webb via the CWC Contact page.

Members are urged to invite their writer friends to attend these sessions. CWC membership is not required. They may also want to consider joining CWC to enjoy the benefits of mixing with many experienced writers willing to share what they know.

Sherry Joyce — Writers Network Speaker

Friday, February 6, 2015,  9:00 a.m. – 11 a.m.

How to Take Your Career Transitions and Strengths and Turn Them Into a Novel

Sherry JoyceWhat makes any one of us think we can actually write a novel–despite having arrived at a “certain” age, complete with life’s lessons learned and a range of previous jobs under the belt? So asks El Dorado Hills romantic suspense/ murder author Sherry Joyce, who, after excelling at several careers of her own, set out to do just that. The result is her first novel, The Dordogne Deception.

Joyce will discuss her writing journey during our February Networking breakfast meeting and will share pointers on how we can convert our own career strengths and life choices to help us create a compelling novel.

Sherry Joyce is a frequent guest speaker. She recently moderated a panel of Mystery, Mayhem and Suspense with fellow Sisters in Crime authors at the Placerville Library. In her professional life before writing, she worked in radio and television, high tech and interior design.

The public is invited. CWC membership not required.
