I retired from full time planning work in 2012. I have always enjoyed writing but have been reluctant to pursue it until recently. Now, I am pursuing writing in earnest. I have been at it for about three years. My main expression is creative non-fiction and personal essays. I joined the California Writers Club in 2019. I have been active in the Memoir Critique Group, Poetry Open Mic, and worked on the club anthology, Patch-Works.
I have been published in local newspapers, the California Update on line magazine, and in the Sacramento Suburban Writers anthology. I have taught two writing classes at the Renaissance Society at Sacramento State University.
I am married to Jan. We have three grown millennial children. We both have interests in art, hiking, pickleball, and kayaking. Read my short stories, essays, and poems at www.markheckey.com
